MUEC encompasses a series of workshops on developing a business plan including interaction, advice and mentorship from members of the start-up investment community, all aimed at helping teams make their ideas commercially viable.

The competition offers:

• Significant cash and service prizes;
• Access to the local entrepreneurial community including business advisors and venture capital;
• Mentorship from successful and seasoned professionals;
• Education in crucial business planning skills in addition to higher level strategic insight into entrepreneurial activity;
• Targeted feedback from leading entrepreneurs, investors, and business professionals comprising the MUEC Judging Panel;
• Team building exercises to facilitate the creation of a “winning team”;
• Media exposure across the region.

The core judging criteria as being:
• Quality of the underlying business idea
• Quality of the plan
• Quality of the pitch
• Amount of creativity demonstrated in transforming the basic idea into a plan.

Quality will not be defined explicitly, but will be left to the judges. However, in the case of the business idea itself, quality is presumed to include the social, environmental, and financial impacts of the business.
